Common Questions

Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. All Base64 encoding and decoding runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your text and files never leave your device — it is safe even for secrets and confidential documents.
Does this support Unicode and emoji?
Yes. The encoder uses UTF-8 via the TextEncoder API, so accented characters, non-Latin scripts (Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, etc.), and emoji encode and decode correctly.
What is URL-safe Base64?
URL-safe Base64 replaces "+" with "-", "/" with "_", and removes the "=" padding so the value can be safely placed in URLs, filenames, cookies, and JWT tokens. Enable the URL-safe option when encoding. Decoding accepts both standard and URL-safe input automatically.
Can I convert files to Base64?
Yes. Open the File tab and drop one or more files. For each file you get the raw Base64 plus a ready-to-use data URI (with the correct MIME type). You can also switch the direction to rebuild a downloadable file from a Base64 or data-URI string.
Why did decoding fail?
Decoding fails when the input is not valid Base64 — for example if characters were truncated or extra text was included. Remove any surrounding quotes or text and try again. The tool auto-fixes URL-safe characters and missing padding.
